1. EML 101 Big 3voice

A solid 3 voice bass

2. EML 101 Dark Sample and Hold

This sample is using Osc 1 feeding the sampler, and the filter Control is turned

up for Sampler Control. This produces the Sample and Hold Effect.

I am then modulating the filter pots as I play

3. EML 101 Swell 4 voice

All 4 voices with a slower attack time for the amplitude and the filter frequency

Amplitude is set to ENV1, and Filter Control is set to ENV 2 (a common setup)

4. EML 101 Slow Attack

All 4 voices with an Attack time set long

An Oberheim Xpander Road case has been modified with foam to cradle the EML 101 synthesizer top section for maximum protection.

Left side of the EML 101 showing oscillator 1, keyboard control and oscillator control.

For normal tuning set Keys / Oct Coarse to fully Counter clockwise, for 12 steps per octave, as shown

Then set Keys/Oct Fine to the middle and adjust by playing octaves and adjusting till perfect octave

on this EML 101 it is just left of center, for perfect 12 steps per octave

Above Oscillator 2. To set the Osc2 tuning, set Osc2 to above settings and play middle C while only Osc2 is on in Mixer

Then while holding middle C key adjust Tune so tuner says it is C . Do this before fine tuning Keys/Oct Fine as described above

Above Oscillator 3. To set the Osc3 tuning, set Osc3 to above settings and play middle C while only Osc3 is on in Mixer

Then while holding middle C key adjust Tune in Osc3 so tuner says it is C

Above Oscillator 4. To set the Osc4 tuning, set Osc4 to above settings and play middle C while only Osc4 is on in Mixer

Then while holding middle C key adjust Tune in Osc4 so tuner says it is C

Note: here Osc4 is set to -1 in the Octave position, which thickens the sounds with one voice an octave lower then others

Also note COLOR setting is different then OSC2 and 3, and on OCTAVE setting OSC4 can go sub audio with LO setting

Plug the 2 Hi outputs into your mixer, (Not stereo just 2 of the same signal)

use the 2 low outs for amplifier inputs or guitar level inputs

Tips for the EML 101

---Always let your EML 101 warm up far at least 5-10 minutes before playing.

It is calibrated for a running temperature, if it is really cold give it more time.

---4 voice operation To get all 4 voices you need to route Oscillator 1 with a patch cable

1. set Osc 1 Switch to HI so it produces audio we can hear

2. Route cable out OSC 1 jack with triangle pointing up (out of unit)

3. Other end of cable goes to Filter Mixer jack triangle facing down (into the unit)

4. In the filter mixer turn up Noise/ EXT pot to hear

----The filter is unique in many ways. To get it to behave like most low pass filters always

set filter control to env 2 for some amount. Then set attack and decay to 0 and sustain

to a hi level in ENV 2 . This useful setup is shown in the manual on page 29, helps push

the frequency higher and to further extremes then the pots allow in low pass. Also

because it is a variable type filter, variation of filter type while playing is very cool

---Rust and Moisture are the enemy. Keep the EML 101 away from this

--- The keyboards need to be cleaned every 10 years or so to keep them working glitch free

Unpacked and ready to play, the EML 101 has 4 analog oscillators.

1st Oscillator is on the left and can easily be used to modulate other parameters. 2nd , 3rd and 4th oscillators are stacked in the middle.
